🏆 Player Interview

What’s your name and bandai name?

A: Hi i’m Westley and my Bandai handle is Mr. West!

How long have you been coming to Tilted Gaming’s Gundam Events?

A: I’ve been coming to Tilted’s Locals for about 4 months now.

Is the Gundam Card Game your current main TCG?

A: Yes, Gundam is my main TCG that I am focusing on.

Do you play any other TCG’s, if not why?

A: No, this is my only TCG I play. I normally collect TCG’s like Pokemon, One Piece and Union Arena for being a fan of Anime, Video Game and Manga Series.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate your competitiveness?

A: Normally I would sit on a 1 because I am a very relaxed casual player but if the stakes are high, prizes are grand, directly challenged and top it off with bragging rights… It will shoot up to a 10 easily.

We decided to do a non-official Bandai Gundam event and make today a Pauper Gundam event. What are your thoughts on this format?

A: This is the first time I’ve ever heard of this format because I am fairly new in the competitive TCG scene. Therefore it’s exciting and presents a challenge to think, design and play outside of the “box” and create unorthodox ways to play and excel at the game as a whole.

This format is a MTG format that other TCG’s have adopted, as Magic fans at this store, we wanted to try it with Gundam to get away from the Meta LRs in Gundam, do you think they should make this format official?

A: This format to get away from the Bail out of current Meta LR’s and win conditions is most definitely refreshing. I totally believe it should be official. To fully explore all of the cards of the game, abilities, combinations and find “holy moly… that worked” moments in the game.

Do you have any other ideas or formats that can be fun for Gundam?

A: I would like to see more of the Multiplayer aspects of Gundam explored more. A great example would be in a 2v2, aside from picking colors, picking “roles” would be unique and cool to see. For example, the roles can be Attacker, Defender, Support, etc.

“Many thanks to all of you who helped me out to be better and awesome to hang out with.”

What deck color(s) did you pilot today to in today's Gundam Event?

A: I ran Blue & White for this event.

Did you come in with a plan with this deck color/tech?

A: Not a plan, more of a play style suited to me more than anything. Blue and White is known for being a tempo and defensive color combination… I wanted to explore a more aggressive low to the ground approach.

This was the last day for us hosting fun/non-official Bandai events for Gundam and making Thursday’s Bandai Official, are you ready for the extra day of competition?

A: Most definitely.

Have you participated in any Newtype Challenges this season?

A: No not yet because I am still fairly new in the competitive scene. But after these last couple of months I participated more and gained experience. I feel more confident and prepared to participate in next season's NewType Challenge.

Who was your toughest matchup?

A: Mr. Jeff without a doubt. He is an experienced TCG player and a great tactician in the game.

Now we want to know your thoughts on the current meta and how it affects the locals scene because we are hearing it is very stale and boring right now?

A: My thoughts on the current meta are agreeing with everyone else that it’s stale because of being blocker heavy and classic endgame big boss. Which is understandable due to the game being fairly new and only two sets in.

Do you think Set 3 will change the state of the game and meta or only continue to be stale until maybe Set 4?

A: Set 3 will be the appetizer to support what is already there in the game. Set 4 will truly be the fresh air needed in the game because there will be enough tools and strategies to shape a new meta and overall feel of the game.

If someone told you they wanted to get into playing Gundam, what would you tell them and what advice would you give?

A: Easy… 3 things. 1. Pick a series, character, playstyle and or Gundam you like. 2. Build a deck revolving around what you picked and research as much information as humanly possible. 3. Play the game, experience the game and the community and most importantly… don’t feel discouraged when you lose. And you will lose a LOT especially if you're new. Learn and develop from each loss and don't give up.

Any feedback you have for us that you would like to see for future events or just the store in general?

A: Not really… just keep doing what you guys are doing by being down to Earth, humble human beings.

Do you have any shoutouts you want to give? (players, friends, store, the staff, etc)

A: Shout outs goes to the staff of Tilted Gaming for being cool people and very helpful and knowledgeable of whatever is asked of them. More shout outs goes to the Weekend Warriors… You know who y’all are! Many thanks to all of you who helped me out to be better and awesome to hang out with.

Thanks for being part of the Tilted Gaming community! 💜
