🏆 Player Interview

What’s your name and Bandai name?

A: Both are Chris

How long have you been coming to Tilted Gaming’s Gundam Events?

A: Since around when Gundam launched, so back in July 2025

Is the Gundam Card Game your current main TCG?

A: Yep, and it’s my first physical TCG

Do you play any other TCG’s?

A: I’m starting to slowly learn Flesh and Blood with Silver Age. I also used to play Pokemon TCG Live but not in person

Have you attended any Newtype Challenges this season?

A: I went to four Newtype Challenge 1s this season, where I bubbled to 5th 3 times in a row (RIP), and three Newtype Challenge 2s

What deck color(s) did you pilot today to in today's Gundam Event?

A: Red White with Sinanju / Qubeley / Kshatriya

Did you come in with a plan with this deck color/tech?

A: Honestly I was actually planning on running a Justice variant of Red White instead, I just forgot to swap out cards beforehand. But in general with Red / White I tend to mulligan assuming I’ll be facing some form of aggro, so I try to see an early blocker and a Close Combat. Other than that, just trying to plan out my turn 5 and 6 so that I can switch from playing defensively to playing some big tempo swing link units like Kshatriya on curve. I’ve also been playing around with a tech copy of Naval Bombardment recently and I’m really liking it.

Do you play any other colored decks?

A: I played Red Blue ping during GD01 and part of the reason I’m playing Red White now is because it’s pretty close to R/B in terms of strategy, but with bigger bodies. I’m also still trying to make Gjallarhorn work.

What was your toughest matchup in the event?

A: I was almost rushed down by Jeff playing a very aggressive Red / Green deck. I think what saved me was seeing three early blockers, and then saving a lategame Haman + Kshatriya pair to get just enough ping to destroy an active unit before it could swing for game.

What unit, link, or pair helped you gain the most advantage in today's event?

A: Sinanju has always been the MVP of this deck, especially when paired to get High Maneuver.

Moving on from your deck tech, we want to know what are your thoughts on the current meta and how it affects the locals scene?

A: GD02 didn’t affect the meta as much as I would have preferred–a lot of cards feel like sidegrades. I’m not a fan of how blocker-heavy the meta is right now (Rick Dias was legit one of the best cards of the set), but the local deck diversity hasn’t been too bad recently. It’s nice to see that most locals aren’t just a bunch of Green/White Wing or Blue/Green OYW matchups, and people are still testing things out.

How do you think GCG is doing right now with only two sets being out, and what do you think we can expect in set 3?

A: I think GCG is going strong. There’s way more interest in it than I expected. My biggest hope is that they’ll do some ST01-ST04 reprints soon, since those decks have quite a few staples for new players, and I think product availability is still a weak point for the game right now. I’m hoping with set 3 we get more unique tribal decks like with Clan in ST06, and some more interesting strategies such as mill or self-damage. Some cards to shake up the current formula of “early blockers + top end good stuff” would make the game way more interesting going forward.

What advice would you give on new players wanting to start competing in locals for GCG?

A: Just go for it! Everyone is chill and patient. I had no idea how to even mash shuffle or what any standard TCG etiquette was when I started, but everyone is down to help.

Did anyone in particular stand out above the rest at today's local that you wanted to give a shout out to?

A: Shoutout to the entire store staff; everyone’s been really welcoming to the scene and helping me find the singles I need to deck build. And for teaching me some FAB!
