🏆 New Player Interview
Q: What got you interested in trying Flesh and Blood for the first time?
A: I have been following the game since release and collecting cards from time to time. Never had a local store carry in my immediate area. Closest store was WildCardCyclone in Temple City which is a little far off to attend regularly.
Q: What made you choose Tilted Gaming as your first store to play at?
A: My brother in law sent me an Instagram link advertising armory events at the store because he knew I liked the game (got him to try it out a few months ago). I saw the store was local to me so I decided to give it a shot.
Q: How was your first Armory experience last night?
A: The armory experience was great, the staff introduced me to the group and everyone was friendly and patient. Gave me tips and were generally good people.
Q: What made you come back again today for Sage Night?
A: Everyone was easy to get along with and really excited about the game. Being around people passionate for the hobby, and the low cost to entry point to Sage made it easy to jump in. I put together a deck an hour before rushing to the store to try it out.
Q: What hero did you learn or play with, and how did it feel learning the deck for the first time?
A: For Sage I used Puffin , who I’ve played around with before on Feltable but never for a Sage match. It was a fun experience playing the deck. I felt every round I was getting a little smoother with the deck. People would provide suggestions on upgrades or the decks and playlines.
“Very nice and cool people. The store is very clean, and organized.”
Q: How did the community or other players help you during your first games?
A: The community gives lots of tips on heroes I might enjoy, playline suggestions, and upgrade suggestions. There was another brand new player at the Sage event and they were lent cards to try out the game and the whole community was fine with helping him learn and taking time on rounds to get a hang of the game. Real great community.
Q: Do you feel Flesh and Blood is easy or challenging to pick up as a new player? Why?
A: I think understanding action points in Flesh and Blood does have a learning curve for new players that can be a little unintuitive depending on the hero. Aggressive heroes that have many go again actions are an easier starting point for new players, but heroes that do not inherently generate action points may feel a little confusing or clunky for new players. One good example is Dorinthea , who’s printed ability allowing for an additional attack with her weapon, but requiring separate card or ability to provide the necessary go again to her weapon may be an unintuitive concept.
Q: What advice would you give someone trying FAB for the first time?
A: I think that the Ira armory deck is a good deck to try out to get a feel for the game. I would recommend not to worry too much about equipment abilities on the first few attempts to not overwhelm players. I think gold fishing hands on your spare time or trying heroes in FeltTable which has automated turns and abilities is a nice easy way to get people to learn how the game works.
Q: Are you planning to come back next week?
A: I am planning to come back next week.
Q: How would you describe Tilted Gaming to another new player thinking about coming in?
A: The staff is great! They seem genuinely passionate about games, are very approachable, easy to talk to, and interact well with the community. Very nice and cool people. The store is very clean, and organized. They’re website is also professional looking and easy to navigate.
