Here’s the full interview and Armory recap from Tilted Gaming Cerritos:

🏆 Winner Interview

Q: Being first place tonight at our Armory, what hero did you play and why that hero?

A: I played Kayo, Armed and Dangerous. I’ve always loved Brute and the new tools he got in Super Slam make him one of the best decks out there right now. I’ve been playing him all season and got good results including a Top 8 at a well-attended PQ.

Q: How long have you been playing Flesh and Blood?

A: Since Dynasty release so... just about 3 years now.

Q: What got you into the game originally?

A: My good friend and fellow local Fuzzy needed me to be an 8th person for some drafts at his house, so I thought, “might as well learn the game.” From there I fell in love with the mechanics and skill expression that Flesh and Blood gives me.

Q: What’s your favorite format — Blitz, CC, Sage or Draft?

A: I absolutely adore Draft. Though Flesh and Blood’s mechanics can make for some wonky formats, there is something special about creating a deck on the fly and then piloting it to a win. Plus, in Flesh and Blood, you can’t just ‘slam a dragon and ride it to victory.’ You need to win multiple turn cycles making Draft games a real battle!

Q: What was your toughest matchup tonight and why?

A: Moises took me down in R4 on Vynnset (I “won” the night on tiebreakers). Vynnset can throw a lot of disruption and he totally high rolled me by drawing and resolving every Malefic Incantation in his deck. He just never let up the pressure and I couldn’t stop enough damage with all the non-blocking cards Kayo has to run.

Q: Any close calls or clutch moments that stood out?

A: In Round 2 I played Alex on Prism and without getting too much into the nitty-gritty details, she forced me into a situation where I had to roll a dice to win the game. If I rolled a 1, my turn would end and would probably lose. If I rolled a 4 or higher, I would win comfortably. I rolled a 4 so I won but man, being put into a gambling situation like that is always a clencher.

Q: What’s one card that overperformed for you today?

A: No comment.

“I’ll defeat any challengers! MWAHAHHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!”

Q: What advice would you give newer players coming to Armory events?

A: I encourage you to look up gameplay videos of your hero so you can get a sense of what your deck does and once you make it, don’t worry about your wins and losses. Flesh and Blood can have a steep learning curve so just focus on improving your play. The wins will come with time!

Q: How do you usually prepare for events like these?

A: To be completely honest, I don’t! Armory Nights are chill, they’re to hang out and have a good time. I try to win, of course, but it’s really more about sitting down with my friends in the -- Flesh and Blood ;)

Q: How did your record end up tonight?

A: 3–1 with a craaaaaaazy loss to Moises in R4.

Q: Any shoutouts to friends or rivals you faced tonight?

A: Shoutouts to everyone really but especially to John Kim who finally made it out to Tilted . Hope to see him again in future weeks!

Q: What keeps you coming back to Armory events every week at Tilted?

A: The shop atmosphere is awesome and everyone is so invested in the community. It feels like a game store opened by a bunch of friends and run with that in mind.

Q: Being 1st on the newly introduced season leaderboard, how do you feel and what’s the plan to maintain your spot?

A: I don't know how much I like having a target on my head but I love that it gives us a reason to play hard. I don’t mind taking on the villain role -- I’ll defeat any challengers! MWAHAHHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!

Q: Last question — anything else you do for the FAB community outside weeklies?

A: I co-host a podcast with fellow locals Fuzzy and Joel called Pitch It To Me Podcast where we discuss the past, present, and potential future of Flesh and Blood design.
